Try Posada’s great assortment of focaccias, served with Parmesan chunks and pickled cauliflower, but save room for the house-made pasta, often dressed with local vegetables and seafood. Forager and chef Hugo Duran (of Mexico City’s Tetetlán) helms the rustic, 80-seat outdoor space shaded under palapas, inspired by village life in remote Mexico communities. Indigenous ingredients, pib (in-ground pit) cooking, and new ancestral spirits like pox (which joins small-production mezcals behind the bar) make this once-sleepy beach town Mexico’s hottest trend-setting destination. Loyal Order is their vibey beachside restaurant along the hotel zone, with seating for 75 (split between daybeds and tables) and a menu of small plates that pay tribute to regional Turkish cooking. [$$$$], This past summer, chef-couple Maya Scales and Benjamin Coe — the duo responsible for helping to create Arca — decided to decamp from the hotel zone to launch a one-acre, sustainability-minded eatery in town. Thanks to its short menu of tacos at 7 to 10 pesos a pop (about 50 cents), in addition to a few other inexpensive Yucatán snacks, this cheap-eats stop in Tulum Pueblo fills up quickly and stays open late — until midnight every day except Monday.
